Aphrodite’s Night–A Greek Mythology-Inspired Debut Party

By:  IloveAsya

What else can be the best excuse for your guest to bow down to your beauty? My suggestion is to enjoy your own Aphrodite’s Night.

It’s your only 18th birthday where you feel extremely beautiful so feel free to transform that night into your fabulous Greek mythology memoir.

Here how to quickly kick it off.

On Invites
• Living with digital age comes innovative ways sending an invite. Although a hard copy of the invitation is crucial, you may want to send an E-vite through your E-mail.
• You can use a parchment paper or old paper to match the theme, and input your photo in an Aphrodite costume to indicate details of your debut. You may include photos of Greek columns, other gods and cupid to add on the design ( but if you need help on this just inquire on us for design options )
• Don’t forget to include in the invitations that they should be in White gown / Greek inspired look.

On Venue / Food

• For not so formal gathering of Debut you may want to inquire with CYMA restaurant as they have this perfect Greek Ambiance.
• For the rest, a garden might be a nice feel but I still suggest a closed ballroom area of a hotel
• Here is a list of some common Greek food: Olives, Eggplant dip, honey, seafood, hummus dip, lamb, baklava, Greek liquor Ouzo, Greek coffee . For more information on food, check out this web site: http://greekfood.about.com/. For beverages, purchase Greek wine or beer.

Venue Decorations

• Put lots of candles, glitter, and gold all over the place.
• You may roll gold ribbon around the napkins for sparkles
• Add up a bowl per table that has fruits on it
• Download or buy music for background
• Don’t ever forget leafy arrangements
• An antique or Harp instrument can give your venue an extra umph! –if you can even hire a harp player then it will make the night more greekish

Program
• As guests enter, let them sign not in your guest book but a Grecian-inspired freedom wall to serve as your guest book. You can actually use a tarpaulin for this.
• If for some reason the guests are not in proper outfit, you may distribute crowns of golden or green leaves for their head dress.
• For your grand entrance, begin with a nice Greek ancient song, the host advice your mortals (a.k.a. guests) to bow down to your beauty. Walk with ease towards your grand stage as your young elegant cousins throw petals on the floor as you come in.
• Start with a meditative prayer
• Your host then greets everyone in Greek language then translates in English to announce dinner is finally served
• Feast yourselves with Greek buffet or meal as waiters dressed in Greek inspired uniforms come your way.
• Halfway mealtime, A harp player can be hired as entertainment.
• Instead of 18 candles, you may call it 18 torches. *** Torch lighting ceremony
Like the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, your candle bearer needs to be involved. Give the first guest a
Hand torch and ask him/her to say a few words before handing the torch over to another guest. The last guest lights the 18 torches.
• Do a neat wine toasting for a new you/
• Instead of 18 roses, you can call it 18 dance with your Spartans
At the end of the dance all 18 men will shout “awooo awooo awoo” just like the Spartans movie
• Instead of 18 gifts, you can call them 18 jewels

Giveaways

• I suggest you give out a cologne which you call your own goddess scent.
• Miniature pillows
• Personalized stem flutes
• Special drinking glass
• Personalized miniature special drinking glass
• Scented candles sprinkled with gold glitter or adorned with golden leaves (just like the Ivy Wreath head piece used by the Greeks of the past)
• Peronalized golden picture frames
• Any unique item you choose then spray painted with gold and silver

Element of Surprise / Games
• Print out a list of the Ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses and what they each ruled over and make it into a quiz. Ask guests to match up the god or goddess with their power
• And here’s more to end your party with a bang… outrageous Idea – Collect a bunch of cheap dishes and some Greek music. Toward the end of the evening, play the music and invite guests to throw the dishes, break them and yell Opa! As a symbol of new beginnings–not to mention a great stress reliever!

Hope this helps and we shall be looking forward you’ll be sharing your Greek party pictures on our site pretty soon.

  1. hi debut ideas!

il be having my debut celebration this coming 28th of the month. I applied ur greek inspired idea but i put some modern touches about the whole theme. One of my close friends suggested a teaser that goes like “The most intriguing year ender event in the modern greek celebration of (my name”). Intriguing because i applied showbiz show ideas such as chika minute, tough ten etc. Since then , i would like to seek some ideas on games/elements of surprise to entertain my guest between my 18’s. I mean, unique games that will not make them bore. Since during the 18 jewels and dance il be the star or the center of the segment, between them i plan to have games wherein my guests will b able to participate. I hope you can help me about this. your imidiate response is greatly appreciated 🙂

  2. Hi Janine,

Your ideas are all good and unique. I’m sure your party will be a great success. The Grecian theme is such a lovely theme to have. Games interspersed in between the main parts of your program would be a good idea because it will keep make your program more lively. It will keep your guests on their feet and excited. We have a games section that I do hope would give you an idea on what games to do on your 18th birthday. http://debutideas.com/?page_id=851. Have fun on your birthday girl!

  3. my cousin asked me to organize her party venue which happens to be greek myth inspired… i think ill have it all easy except that i dont know what kind of material i can use to make an improvised ionic pillar… hope you can help me..=^^=

  4. Hello, I’m thinking of this theme a while ago. And it all answers my questions. It helps me a lot thanks. ;]

  5. Hi Charm!

You can buy a huge Styro from National bookstore and use it as a material for the pillars. Research your design first from the internet, then print it out. Create an outline on the styro then cut it out. You can use grey paint to draw the details.

    Good luck! 🙂

  6. hi debut ideas!

i’m celebrating my 18th January of next year, but I would want it to be ironed out by June, of this year.
what is the most unique theme that you can advise me with?
    Thank you very much!!

  7. Good day,

I am planning to have my debut party
    in a Greek style.

    Could you suggest giveaways
that will be suitable for my party’s theme
    other than cologne?

    Thank you 🙂

  8. hello, i wil b celebrating my debut this may.. this is my theme.. but i dont know what title can i use in this.. can u help me wth ths? thanks

  9. Hi Joy Santos,’

A nice title would be “A Toast for Joy as she turns 18!” “Joy, A Goddess @ 18” “Joy, A Queen at 18.” Hope this helps Joy and happy birthday.

  10. Hello Debut Ideas,

I am planning to use this theme,
can you give me some examples
of souvenirs that I can give
    other than cologne? Thank you.

  11. Hi Jannine,

How about laurel leaf shaped chocolates? that will be cool! I’m sure everybody will love scented candles shaped like pillars. You can also give loot baskets with different fruits and decorating it with vines for a more Grecian feel. You can also look for key chains of laurel leaf, goddess, pillars, etc. Photobooth with the Roman Coliseum as your backdrop would also be a great idea. Hope this helps and happy birthday.

  12. hi there..i will have my debut this year and i’m planning to have a fairy tale themed party… could you suggest ideas regarding on the Invites, venue and foods, venue decorations, giveaways and program… thank you so much!!

  13. hmmm…. perhaps you can give away miniature pillows, personalized stem flutes, a special drinking glass, a miniature drinking glass, scented candles sprinkled with gold glitter and adorned with golden leaves (like an Ivy Wreath head piece), personalized golden picture frames, or you can give away any unique item that’s spray painted with gold and silver.

  14. I am preparing for my debut invites and i am using the greek theme. What best could you suggest for the title of the event?. And, also please help me on how to tell them to strictly follow the grecian inspired look in a nice way, specially my 18’s. For sure this ruins the event if they wont follow.

Thank you so much. Hoping for your reply. It will be a big help for us.

  15. Hi Kimberly,

For the title of your party, you may try “A Party Fit for A Goddess” “Goddess Kim, turns 18,” this rhymes), and “Helen of Troy move over, Kim is turning 18 and will have a party like no other” (this rhymes too but it is just too long). You can only pray that they adhere to your dress code, so it is best to come prepared. For female guests, I think there are a lot of clothes that resemble Grecian clothing so that wouldn’t be a problem. You might have a problem with your male guests. So just to be on the safe side, you can ask your male and female guests to wear all white and in the party, distribute laurel leaves and white drapes (this may only be a small white cloth, notice the white drape on the picture)

and for female guests, distribute cute floral headpieces for them to wear at your party.

Having them wear these would tie up your theme nicely even if some of them may not be in Grecian outfits. Hope this helps and happy birthday.

  16. Thank you so much debut ideas. I forgot to ask for the male attire, thank you for answering ahead. I’ll try to combine the titles you gave me, its all striking and I love it specially the “move over” & ” a party like no other”. Your site have been helping us so much, the truth is we got from here, from themes to the smallest details of my debut.

Thank you sooo much debut ideas, good health to you so that you can still give advices to those girls. 🙂

  17. Hi Kimberly,

Ask your male guests to wear white pants (summer string pants) and white polo so that it is easier to top it with the white sash cloth. But if for instance some failed to come in all white, the white sash cloth will do the trick of making them look like they adhered to the theme along with the gold laurel leaves that you can do yourself by just cutting out cardboard cutouts of leaves, sticking them together and spray painting them with gold. Thanks for wishing us good health. We are glad we could be of help to you. Enjoy your debut preparations and happy birthday.

  18. Hi Ajoe,

For fairy tale themes, it is best that you choose a fairy tale that you want to showcase because they differ in many ways. It would be easier to look for party favors or make your invites with a particular fairytale in mind. For invites, I believe a scrolled invite is best for fairytale themes (reminiscent of Cinderella). Any venue would work for a fairytale theme but a venue with a grand staircase leading directly to the venue would be best in order to create a dramatic grand entrance. For decorations, heavy drapes and chandeliers would surely give your ordinary venue a castle look that is perfect for a fairytale theme. We have a sample of the program flow that may give you some idea in doing your own program and here is a sample of a script. Hope this helps and happy birthday.

  19. hello there.. im having a fairly difficult time figuring out the right theme for my debut. there are three things that comes into my mind when i think about my debut. elegance. simplicity. glamour. im thinking this grecian theme would perfectly fit the picture. but then, i can’t stop wanting to add touches of hollywood in my party. at the same time im thinking about the convenience of my guests especially when im thinking about what they’re going to wear in my party… help help help please.hehehe

what am i going to do about this? about the theme? the touches of hollywood stuffs plus grecian stuffs in my party? the problem about my guests’ attire?

i really really appreciate your help. thank you much! 😀

  20. Hi! I’m celebrating my debut on september and just like the others, I’m also interested in having a Greek-inspired party. Could you suggest a title for my invitation? and also, I’m having a problem with the guys’ attire. I’m pretty sure that most of them could not correspond to the “white pants” attire since black pants are more usual than white ones. Could they just wear black slacks instead? What can you suggest? I’m sorry if I have so many questions. It’s just that I”m becoming more nervous as my 18th birthday draws near.

  21. Hi Marj,

I think khaki pants would be much more appropriate. I think every guy has one in their closets and even if they don’t, they can always buy one for your special day which they can still use afterwards. Hope this helps.

  22. Hi Charm,

I believe the Hollywood theme and Grecian inspired theme cannot be combined. You are right in saying that the Hollywood theme is pure glitz and glamour and this entails wearing fabulous red carpet worthy clothes and sparkling decor in order to adhere to your theme. Grecian theme is more on drapes for decoration and white Grecian clothes. I suggest you pick one and go with that. Hope this helps and happy birthday.

  23. Hello Good Afternoon 🙂 My debut is fast approaching, I want to apply this Grecian Theme 🙂 but the problem is I don’t know what outfits will the guys in my party will wear, I searched for it but I don’t think that they’ll wear it, can you help me find a better outfit for them? that fits this theme? thank you 🙂
